On the Way

What a world we live in. A few hours ago I was with my Shaloy and youngest daughter Tekoa in Georgia. A few minutes ago I called the house with my computer and was talking to her over a wireless network while sitting in O'Hare airport. Using Skype and a newly acquired camera we were able to see each other while we visited. The skype connection is how we're planning to keep in touch. If you want to call me, , get a skype account and look me up "leif.penrose" calls are free and if you've got a camera we can see each other.

The plane is outside the window and is the largest I've ever flown on. Boeing 777 What seemed miraculous a few years ago is now mundane. I hope Bernoulli's physics works for the rest of the evening!!

We went to the Chattanooga Airport 2 hours earlier than recommended so we could pack and repack until we got the weight in each bag just right. Bag #1 was over by 3.5 pounds and bag #2 was over by 6.5 pounds. Switched to a larger carry on, loaded that up with books weighed again, left a computer bag and weighed again, switched contents from bag #1 to bag #2 and weighed again, tried counting the computer bag as a purse but the check in folks said my carry on, Autoharp and the Computer bag were three personal items and I'm only allowed two. Loaded more stuff into the carry on and weighed again. Thirty minutes and quart of sweat later we were down to 49 & 49.5 pounds for both bags. The carry on is 42 pounds and I hope they don't ask me to weigh it. That doesn't count the autoharp. Ethiopian air said it's $12 per Kilo over their limits of 45 Kilo total baggage and 7 Kilo Carryons. Actually they are not really bags but plastic packing boxes that were suggested by our friends Dan & Kelly Pratt.

Dan & Kelly were in Sudan for many years and have been a great source of information and advice.

Leif, we are so glad you're on your way, finally! Sometimes the worst part of the trip is packing and actually getting on the plane! We hope the rest of your trip goes well. We have looked into Skype before, but now we have to get serious. Graduation weekend is almost over - what a blessing to have family here. We are headed over to the Veteran's Park on the Greenway to take some family pictures. Talk with you later. Dan and Kelly

Packing and repacking was successful. Glad we got it all in and did not have to pay extra. Now know where Zach gets it from, traveling with alot of stuff. I was toooo heavy to fit in your luggage. Luv, Shaloy
